Take a break from the beach to see what else there is for fun.
Fun isn’t just for kids
You’ll find plenty of excitement and fun for everyone in every corner of the Maine Beaches. From a wild time at the zoo in York to arcade action and midway games during a stroll along the boardwalk in Old Orchard Beach. Maybe catch a fly ball during a game, or fly through the trees along a zip-line. Then fly even higher for get a birds eye view with a scenic flight of the region by helicopter.
If keeping your feet on the ground is up your alley, there are lanes for bowling and more unbelievably themed mini-golf courses than you can shake a putter at. And then, for the pinnacle in summertime fun, there are amusement and water parks like Funtown Splashtown USA to cool down the heat and get your heart racing. Oh, and we’ve got that too. How thrilling it is to be a kid, at any age!
Let’s Roll
A little less heart-pounding but no less exciting is a competitive round of mini-golf. Give the course at Pirate’s Cove in Old Orchard Beach a whirl, enjoy a side of go-cart action at Wonder Mountain in Wells, or play a rousing mini-round among the animatronic dinosaurs at Raptor Falls in Arundel. Bowling is also a great way to get in the swing of things, so take your chance to roll for glory at the classic Bowl-a-Rama in Sanford or the Garden Street Bowl in Kennebunk.
How about a movie? Try the Saco Drive-In or an IMAX and 3D feature on the marquee at Apple Cinemas in Saco. Like the sound of dinner and a show? Try Smitty’s Cinema in Sanford.
Baseball is the national pastime, and there are a couple of ways to get out to the ballpark here. The Maine Beaches is home to the Sanford Mainers playing at historic Goodall Park in Sanford—where Babe Ruth played his last game as a Boston Red Sox before being sold to the New York Yankees. Or take a swing at some balls of your own at the Mountain View Golf Range’s batting cages.
Out in the Countryside
A great way to hang together might be to take a road trip (by car or bike) to a local farm for some PYO berries. Or, if the season is right, try your hand at apple picking at McDougal Orchards in Sanford’s village of Springvale or a turn through the Corn Maze at Zach’s Farm in York.
